Under the theme of Love & Love alone can bring Zero Stigma & Discrimination of HIV&AIDS' the Red Ribbon Superstar Choir competition organized jointly by District AIDS Prevention & Control Unit (DAPCU) and Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) was held at ZM Auditorium Tamenglong HQs.
Joseph Pauline, MCS, ADM/ADC Tamenglong and R.Akhiu, Pastor Zion Baptist Church Tamenglong attended the inaugural function of the competition as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.
Surprisingly, only three church/groups participated in the competition even though there are more than 20 Churches in the district HQs and wide publicity had been carried out.
Speaking on the occasion, Joseph Pauline pointed out that there are many people infected/affected with HIV&AIDS and the number of patients in the hill districts of Manipur is increasing.
This is very dangerious for our society.
Joseph went on to observe that other diseases may have medicines for cure but there is still no medicine for HIV&AIDS.
So, prevention is the best medicine for HIV&AIDS.
Nonetheless, to have 100 percent prevention, we need to know about HIV&AIDS and change our behavior.
If there is love, the infected persons will live much longer and if there is love in our family HIV&AIDS can be prevented.
Dr Z.Kamei, District AIDS Control Officer and Ph.
Lanngamba, Assist.
Director of MACS were also among those who spoke on the occasion.
Out of the three choir groups which participated in the competition, Women Society of Tousem United Baptist Church, Women Society of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Women Choir of Rongmei Naga Baptist Association bagged the first, the second and the third prize of Rs.10,000, Rs.7000 and Rs.5000 respectively.
The first two best choir groups would go on to participate at the state level competition to be held March 15 at Manipur Baptist Convention.
