With majority of the voters for the forthcoming Panchayat Elections having their photos in the electoral rolls, the election to the Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats scheduled on September 13 is expected to be conducted in a free and fair manner.
According to an official report received from the State Election Commission, since the photos of majority of the electors have been included in the Electoral Rolls, the General Elections to Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats in the four valley districts on September 13 is likely to be conducted in the most accurate manner.
There will hardly be any chances for bogus votes in the election.
At present, photos of 98.29 percent of the electors have been included in the electoral rolls.
All the electors of 33 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) have included their photos in the electoral rolls.
The photo electoral exercise for the remaining ACs, mainly in the hill districts, will also be completed shortly.
The ACs in the valley district where the process of photo electoral rolls is still pending includes Andro, Jiribam, Konthoujam, Patsoi, Langthabal, Naoriya Pakhang Lakpa, Wangoi, Mayang Imphal, Bishnupur and Lilong, the report disclosed.
The report further disclosed that instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), ballot papers/boxes would be used in the Panchayat Elections this time.
In the forthcoming general election to the Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats, altogether 4536 aspiring candidates including 3784 for Panchayat member, 521 for Pradhan and 139 for Zilla Parishad are in the fray.
