Imphal, July 03 2016:
Government ITI Students' Union on Saturday
began a five-day hunger strike against the State Government's pro-
posal to shift the ITI centre at Takyel to Imphal East.
Speaking to media persons, the students' union general
secretary Thiyam Sainikumar said the union submitted a memo-
randum to the State Government demanding withdrawal of its
proposal to shift to the present campus of ITI.
The union had,
in the memorandum, demanded a positive reply from the
Government in 5 five days.
With the State Government turning a deaf ear to the de-
mand made by the students, ITI Students' Union embarked on
a five-day hunger strike starting today.
The State Government has proposed to shift the ITI centre
at Takyel to a location at Imphal East to enable development
of a full fledged Technical University in the present campus.
The Government ITI has altogether 300 students.
With semester examinations close on the heels, the union
general secretary has appealed to the authorities concerned to
refrain from creating more hardships for the students.
He has
further urged the authorities concerned to withdraw its deci-
sion to shift the centre.
