Thang-Ta refresher training course concludes

Ten days Thang-ta Refresher Training Course conducted by the Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) under the sponsorship of the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur has concluded today at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal.
Secretary of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur Dr Chingangbam Sarat attended the closing function as the chief guest while president of KIMACS Maibam Surjaboro Meitei and Prof Paonam Gunindro of Manipur University were the president and guest of honour respectively.
Addressing at the valedictory function, Sarat applauded KIMACS for conducting the training course for the benefits of the upcoming students.

"This year, in the HSLC examination conducted by BOSEM, 385 students opted Thang-Ta as their optional subject and secured 98 percent pass percentage.
There were 130 first division holders and 144 second division holders," he said.
Under the common syllabus on Thang-Ta, two books have been released by the BOSEM so far and it would not have been possible without the help of certain organizations like KIMACS who have been working to conserve and preserve Thang-Ta.
He said that Thang-Ta was once an integral part of the Meitei ethnic community therefore should be well preserved and practised by the future generations.
Thang-Ta not only teaches self defence techniques but also teaches value education to students, added Sarat.
Guest of honour Gunindro also stressed on the importance of conserving of the age-old self defence art form practised by our ancestors.
