Imphal, August 09 2010: Minister of Consumers Affair, Food and Civil Supplies, Yumkham Erabot today broke open the locks of the Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) located at Lamphelpat, to pave the way for the staff to resume normal duty.

The office had been sealed by KCP-MC (Lamyanba Khuman group) in connection with monetary demands.

Talking to mediapersons prior to breaking the locks of the office, the Minister informed that KCP-MC (Lamyanba Khuman group) had served two demand notes to the Secretary and the Chief Executive Officer of KVIB demanding that in all Rs 60 lakhs should be given from the fund for implementation of Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).

The first extortion note of Rs 30 lakhs and another extortion note of Rs 30 lakhs were jointly signed by commander in-chief of the outfit Lamyanba Khuman and DC Nongpoknganba and were served together on August 3.Subsequently, some unidentified persons came and locked the collapsable iron shutters of the main entrance to the office in the afternoon of August 7 .

The Minister further said that he himself has come to unlock the office gate so that the officials of KVIB are not disturbed in attending to their duties.

When the Minister came to the office, he brought along a hammer and crowbar with which he broke the locks that unidentified persons have put over the collapsible shutters.

Officials of KVIB have explained that in the formation of task force for implementation of PMEGP, Deputy Commissioners of respective districts are the chairmen and representatives of KVIC, KVIB and DIC Monitoring Cell are the members.

Over and above this, there are also other special invitees and members of the Task Force.

So, they cannot do anything they like in the implementation of PMEGP.

On the other hand, the office of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) which was also locked up by some unidentified armed persons some days earlier, was broke open by Imphal West District Police Commandos today.

The office of NRHM is attached with the Directorate of Family Welfare located near the Assembly complex.
