Imphal, March 29 2020:
Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has expressed deep concern over rice distribution at various parts of the State amidst the 21 day Nationwide lockdown to check the spread of COVID-19 .
KSA in a statement said that the association has received numerous complaints about differential distribution of rice across the State following announcement made by the State Government to provide free rice for a month to every household on account of the lockdown.
Maintaining that it is 'disheartening' to see such 'irregularities' in distribution of basic needs (rice), KSA drew attention of authorities concerned to intervene and ensure fair distribution of rice.
While asking all MLAs to oversee the distribution of rice at their respective Constituencies, KSA demanded that clear lists of quantities assigned to agents of the Wards should be made public to maintain transparency.
Condemning the Ministers assigned to oversee the distribution of the essential items in districts of not supervising enough to make the processes fair, KSA claimed that social media like Facebook are flooded with complaints of people regarding the distribution of rice.
Asserting that the majority of people of the State are poor and depend on the rice and other essential items being distributed by the Government at these crucial times, KSA said authorities concerned should maintain transparency and ensure fair distribution of the basic needs for people to survive the lockdown.
