Eight women and one attacker injured in separate bomb blasts

Imphal, January 27, 2012:
At least eight women including a girl were injured in a bomb blast at Wahengkhuman Mayai Leikai last night at around 9.20 pm.
The bomb was hurled by some unknown persons to a group of Meira Paibis who were keeping vigil to prevent unwanted incidents among local people in connection with the ensuing elections.
The injured victims are identified as Ngangom Leirikmacha (50) wife of Ng Manaobi, Ngangom Ibecha (35) wife of Ng Ningthemjao, Yanglem Tharongou (60) wife of Y Biramangol, Kshetrimayum Tababi (40) wife of Ksh Manglemba, Kshetrimayum Priyakhombi (18) daughter of Ksh Manglemba, Ngangom ongbi Gomti (32) wife of Ng Chaoba, Maibam Sumila (37) wife of M Manglemba and Chingakham Tamubi (50) wife of Ch Chaoba.
Among them, Maibam Sumila and Chingakham Tamubi were stated to be critical condition and are undergoing treatment in Shija Hospitals, Langol while the others are in RIMS hospitals.
Reacting against the bomb attack to innocent women, locals of Wahengkhuman today staged a sit in protest.
According to a woman who attended the sit in protest, the women were not there supporting any of the candidates but they were keeping vigil to prevent election related violence among local youths of the village.
Appealing not to repeat such act in future, the locals demanded the concern organisations to give the reason of the bomb attack publicly.
Meanwhile, an attacker was injured when a bomb which he was trying to fit inside the toilet of Dr Bilashini's house at Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai exploded suddenly today at around 11.05 am.
Report from the spot said that the attacker came to the house of Dr Bilashini today morning in a rickshaw along with the driver when the doctor was about to finish her routine consultancy.
The attacker then entered the toilet at the northern side of the house.
Minutes' later, the bomb exploded suddenly injuring the attacker and destroying the toilet completely.
Besides, glasses of the windows of the house and racks of medicine racks in the Shangoi of Dr Bilashini were shattered by the impact of the blast.
The attacker was identified as Shijagurumayum Momocha Sharma (35) son of Ramkrishna Sharma of Aheibam Leikai.
Police rushed the injured person at RIMS hospitals.
DIG (Range I) L Kailun and DSP Imphal West S Ibomcha rushed at the spot and enquired about the incident.
A Remote Control and some grenade materials were also found from the spot which were recovered by the bomb squad of the Manipur Police.
Former Health Director, Chingtham Chandramani, husband of Dr Bilashini told reporters that he did not receive any threat or monetary demand from any organisation and he is not related to any election related activities.
