Imphal, March 22 2021: Education Minister S.Rajen Singh has stated that there will be no life without water.

The world will be facing water crisis if we do not follow the law of the nature, he added.

Minister was speaking as Chief Guest on the occasion of World Water Day cum Agromet Awareness Programme organised by Indian Council for Agricultural Research, ICAR, Manipur at its centre at Lamphelpat, today.

Rajen Singh said that we should know the value of water.

Water is life and we should use water judiciously.

Wasting of water will give a alarming impact to human beings in future, minister maintained.

He said that the concept of preservation of water should be fully adopted by all.

Cultivation of food crops is possible only when there is water.

It is unfortunate that we have breached the law of the nature.

There has been man made ecological imbalance.

We have to find out the reasons for the occurrence of uncertain floods and droughts during the last few decades, he added.

Minister said that there was a time when people produced sufficient food crops.

The state was also self-reliant in terms of agricultural and other products.

Our forefathers even had the practice of preserving crops and even fish products.

The scenario has come to an unwanted change.

He also suggested that planting trees and stopping deforestation will help to check the increasing global warming.

In order to provide water for agricultural activities up to some extent, Minor Irrigation Department has introduced the scheme of tube well in the fields.

Command Area Development Authority, CADA is also constructing distributary channels, he added.

Dr S Basanta Singh, Director of Instruction and Research, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Dr I Meghachandra Singh, Joint Director, ICAR, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour and President respectively.

Officials and staffs of ICAR, Imphal, KVK, I/W, and others also attended the occasion.

A technical session was also held as a part of the observance.

At Senapati, the District Administration today joined the campaign of Jal Shakti Abhiyan: "Catch the Rain" with the rest of the country which was launched by the Prime Minister of India at the Conference Hall, DC Office.

In today's programme, Th Kirankumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati said the sensitisation on water conservation will begin at the grassroots level through the people's participation.

He therefore appealed the member to take active participation in rainwater harvesting.

A Adahrii Maheo, MCS, Additional District Magistrate, Senapati in his welcome address stated that the campaign will be taken all across the country both in rural and urban areas with the theme "Catch the rain, where it falls when it falls" till the post monsoon season.

S Lohrii Mao, Executive Engineer, PHED, Senapati in his speech appealed all the member present to educate the local villagers in conserving water through the plantation of trees.

Besides, the campaign was carried out in all Sub- Divisional Blocks and various anganwadi centres in a befitting manner.

Later, a pledge was taken by the member present which was led by Th Kirankumar, IAS, DC, Senapati.

The programme was attended by DLO's, several village authorities and leaders.
