Chandel reels under fuel shortage due to non-allocation

Imphal, August 09, 2013: Non-allocation of fuel to the lone agency being the main reason, people living in Chandel district headquarters are reeling under the impact of shortage of fuel for the last several months.

The matter came to light after a joint meeting between the representatives of Naga Chiefs' Association Chandel (NCAC) and Cr Nicholas Francis, proprietor of M/s Cr Nicholas filling station, Chandel today.

Talking to media after the meeting, President NCAC Ws Angthung pointed out that after one Suresh Singh who was partnering with Nicholas in running the oil pump severed the partnership ties, the lone filling station in Chandel district headquarters has not received any fuel allocation for the last three months.

Nicholas had even deposited the required amount of money for 4 KL of petrol.

But the IOC is yet to make any allocation.

As a consequence of not allocating any fuel to the oil pump, some of the machines installed in the fuel station too have got damaged and Nicholas is waiting for the spare parts ordered from Guwahati to replace the damaged ones, Angthung informed.

Although Nicholas is said to be looking for partner, specially a local resident, NCAC had it clear that if Nicholas is not in a position to run the oil pump anymore, the task should be entrusted to a capable person, Angthung said.

It may be noted here that NCAC had earlier apprised DC, Chandel on the fuel crisis.

But as nothing positive has come about and the fuel crisis continues to linger, one litre of petrol cost around Rs 120 and above in the black market of Chandel today, causing lot of hardship to the people, specially office goers and school going children.
