IRCS, Manipur commits to combating COVID-19 till end

With the outbreak of COVID-19 becoming a global health crisis, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Manipur has been combating the pandemic on the frontline alongside the State Government and several volunteers of CSOs and clubs to stop the transmission of the novel virus in the State since February 2020.Speaking to The Sangai Express, Chairman of IRCS, Manipur, Dr Yanglem Mohen asserted that the society is committed to continuing its battle against the COVID crisis until normalcy is brought in the State, which has recorded over 450 active cases so far.
Dr Mohem said that about 200 volunteers of IRCS, Manipur are stationed in different quarantine centres of the State as per a request from Ministry of Health, Government of India.
Governor Dr Najma Heptulla is the president of IRCS, Manipur branch.
To effectively combat the pandemic, the State Government has donated Rs 3 lakh while IRCS Headquarters donated Rs 2 lakh to the Manipur branch of the society, he said adding that Outer MP Dr Lorho Pfoze and one individual from Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal also presented 1,000 face masks, PPE kits and 100 face masks respectively.
Dr Mohen also said that 20 volunteers each of IRCS are deployed in 10 districts of Manipur, reminding that the society in collaboration with City police also took out a motorcycle and a cycle rallies on March 5 and 12 last respectively to spread awareness about the preventative measures of COVID-19.The society had also reached out to different localities to spread awareness about the dreaded disease and had also distributed over 3500 face masks and 500 hand sanitisers to police personnel and street vendors, the chairman continued.
IRCS, Manipur had also distributed edible items to different old age, children and women homes; cancer and HIV patients and victims of sexual offences and gun among others, he said and added that volunteers of IRCS also aided in receiving and screening returnees at Jiribam, Mao and Bir Tikendrajit International Airport and also in sending them to quarantine centres.
Saying that the society also helped in pacifying the heated arguments that broke out at SK Women College, Bishnupur and Diligent Public School, Moirang, he added that IRCS also organised blood donation camp at RIMS and JNIMS to solve a shortage of blood supply in the State.
