Imphal, June 14 2020:
In connection with the detention of one Lourembam Sanjoy under National Security Act (NSA), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the State authority concerned to take up appropriate action within eight weeks.
After perusing a complaint which said that L Sanjoy was arrested by Imphal East district police without giving any details under NSA from Court premises after he was released by a Judicial Magistrate on bail, the NHRC issued the directive last Thursday.
The NHRC's directive said that the complaint should be transmitted to the authority concerned for appropriate action and the authority should take up appropriate action within eight weeks.
The complaint was filed by one Lourembam Sanjit on May 19 on behalf of Lourembam Sanjoy.
It claimed that L Sanjoy is a social worker and has been preparing to contest State Assembly election.
L Sanjoy was released by Court on May 18 but at the very next moment he was arrested again under NSA.
It looked like the arrest was pre-planned and influenced by the State Government/some powerful people, the complaint alleged.
It pleaded the NHRC to save the victim from such acts of blatant human rights violation.
