Imphal, December 07 2011:
Of all the PMs' visit to the state so far, the recent visit of Dr Manmohan Singh was most unfortunate and a big loss to the state of Manipur with no special package announced belying expectation of the people, said Meinam Bhorot, BJP, National Executive member.
Addressing media persons, Meinam Bhorot stated that the rejection of a Rs.6,000 crore package sought by the State Chief Minister was a clear indication that the Union government has no trust in the SPF government of the state led by Chief Minister O Ibobi.
It also meant that O Ibobi may not come back to power and his days as Chief Minister are numbered.
He also regretted that the SPF Government let four Union ministers stand throughout the public meeting at Kangla organized to welcome the two Central leaders even as Manipur is well known for hospitality towards its guests.
The crores of rupees spent by the State Government spent to make arrangements for the visit in beautification, fencing the stretch from Imphal Tulihal Airport and to all the venues where the Prime Minister inaugurated mega structures, turned out to be useless as people refused to come out on the streets, Meinam Bhorot contended.
He further questioned the motive of the SPF government in not arranging 2/3 interpreters, fully knowing that the PM and Sonia will be needing them at all cost and making a big blunder which could have been avoided.
Coming to the issue of "Supra State Body", Meinam Bhorot said that the party does not trust the the clarification made by the Prime Minister during his recent visit to Manipur on the proposed offer to the Nagas.
The State and Central Governments should make it more clear.
He further questioned as to why the Union government kept mum when the Seven Sister Post hit back at the Union Home Minister calling him a liar.
The BJP, right through, has always been against the proposal of "Supra State Body".
It also has been against the status given to J&K where the state has a different Constitution and a different flag of its own.
Clarifying on the allegation made by the Chief Minister that Atal Bihari Bajpayee never visited Manipur as a Prime Minister, he said that it was because of O Ibobi,s little knowledge that he uttered such words at the public meeting at Kangla.
In fact Atal Bihari Bajpayee came during the tenure of CM Nipamacha, where he announced a special package of 90 crores at a meeting held at BOAT.
The three Ima Keithel and the Flyover bridge was planned during the NDA government.
BJP, General Secretary and media advisor, Basanta Sharma was also present on the occasion.
