Imphal, December 17 2017:
Comparing the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN-IM on August 3, 2015 to a time bomb, Congress party has accused BJP of planting a time bomb which can shatter the unity of Manipur to pieces .
As a part of their sustained campaign against the secretive Framework Agreement, Congress party and their supporters staged a protest demonstration at Moirang Khunou Bazar today under the aegis of Thanga Block Congress Committee .
Speaking at the gathering, ex-Deputy Chief Minis- ter Gaikhangam appealed to BJP to defuse the time bomb and let people live in peace by disclosing the contents of the Framework Agreement .
While sarcastically remarking that Chief Minister N Biren looks like a son of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gaikhangam said that N Biren has been speaking and acting whimsically just like Narendra Modi .
The Government has no vision and it would be disastrous for Manipur if the coalition Government led by BJP exists any longer, he cautioned .
Even though the coalition Government has com- pleted eight months in office, it has not yet adopted any name nor does it have a common minimum programme .
The issue of Framework Agreement is a public issue.
It is about safeguarding Manipur and the ongoing campaign has no element or intention to score political mileage .
Gaikhangam then urged BJP to disclose the contents of the Framework Agreement and take credit for the same .
He further called upon all political parties active in Manipur to join the campaign and save Manipur collectively .
Assam Accord, Punjab Accord and Mizoram Accord were signed when Congress party was in power and there was no hullabaloo as all these accords were signed with full knowledge of public .
But an atmosphere of anxiety and apprehension enveloped the whole State since the Framework Agreement was signed by the BJP-led Government.
The Central Government's stubborn refusal to divulge the details of the agreement is nothing but open deception of the people, Gaikhangam asserted .
Rejecting Chief Minister N Biren's assertion that no development works were taken up in hill districts when there was Congress Government, the ex-Deputy Chief Minister pointed out that he hails from the hills and Biren's assertion has no truth .
It is rather condemnable that Chief Minister N Biren has been speaking as if he supports NSCN-IM's propaganda that hill areas have been left out of development projects, Gaikhangam added .
Ex-Chief Minister O Ibobi, MLA Govindas Konthoujam and MPCC senior vice-president T Mangibabu too spoke at the protest demonstration.
