Imphal, December 17 2017:
In its relentless campaign against drug abuse and alcoholism, a team of Coalition Against Drug & Alcohol (CADA) Bishnupur District Committee and CADA Tronglaobi Unit conducted a drive in Tronglaobi, Bishnupur on December 15 and caught three persons along with 20 containers, 2000 pieces of malt (hamei) and 10 litres of local hooch, a statement from the organisation said .
CADA mentioned the three individuals were Yumnam (O) Soni, 37; Yumnam (O) Sanatombi, 35; and Hemam (O) Tathotpi, 40.All of them are from Tronglaobi Awang Leikai, Sorok Maning .
All the recovered items were destroyed in the premise of Moirang Police Station, added the organisation while expressing its disapproval over the inaction of the excise officials who did not take up any action citing lack of manpower .
CADA also charged that the police were reluctant to deal with the matter as there were police personnel in the families of the alleged culprits .
It added that more alcoholic items would have been recovered if the police had given an extra pair of hands in the drive .
Nonetheless, CADA said that it will carry on its campaign with help from the police and excise personnel.
