Army organises seminar

A one-day seminar on employment opportunities for today's youth organised by 59 Mountain Brigade under the aegis of Red Shield Division was held today at the Auditorium of Red Shield, Leimakhong.
Inaugurating the academic seminar, Maj Gen Binoy Poonen, GOC of 57 Mountain Division said the seminar was organised with the attempt to create awareness about various opportunities available to the youths.
Stating that National Integration tours have been organised by the Army for students of the North East, Maj Gen Poonen said the tours have been organised to show the students of the region about the activities of other states.
He further maintained that the youths of Manipur are facing unemployment problem even as the state's literacy rate of 74 percent is above the national average which itself is a matter of concerned.
Talking about the disparity of students, Maj Gen Poonen observed that there are a class of people who send their children to other states/cities or even abroad for their education while at the same time there are youths ceased studying due to poverty and started joining underground groups.
He said militancy problem is an impediment to development.
During the technical session, Col Jitendra Sharma, CO of 10 DOGRA had a power-point presentation on 'Career in the Army' while Col Vikram Dubey, CO of 5 AR spoke about career in Central Armed Police Forces.
Col Sushmita Das, Officiating Commander of 357 Field Hospital spoke on medical, para-medical and nursing career in the Army.
The seminar was attended by hundreds of school students and NCC cadets.
