Ukhrul has substantial potential for agri produces, says DC

The temperate climatic condition of Ukhrul dis-
trict as well as the vast land available for
extensive plantation of agricultural crops would
certainly increase the productivity of the State,
Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner Modak
Hrisheekesh Arvind said.
Speaking at the first Ukhrul district kiwi
producers' meet held at TTA hall,
Hamleikhong, the DC who attended the pro-
gramme as the chief guest said that even
though Ukhrul district has a potential of pro-
ducing large quantity of horticultural
products, there is a lack of expertise knowl-
edge, technical input, marketing facilities and
infrastructural development.
He also stressed on the need to have
proper linkage with banking institutions,
ICAR, KVK and district administration so
as to increase the knowledge and technical
input for the farmers.
DC MH Arvind also
released the logo of Ukhrul Kiwi Fruit Pro-
ducers' Forum (UKFPF).
N Ajitkumar, SMS, KVK, Ukhrul high-
lighted the main objectives of UKFPF and
ensured of working for the welfare of the
farmers of the district.
An advisory board and a monitoring com-
mittee headed by the Deputy Commissioner
were also constituted.
Dr Saraswith, PO, KVK,Tamenglong
said that Ukhrul is situated at high altitude
with temperate climatic condition favourable
for flourishing Kiwi fruit.
The programme was organized by KVK,
Ukhrul and ICAR Research Complex for
NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Imphal and
sponsored by Tribal Sub-Plan.
