Principals attend workshop

A two-day workshop on skills in higher education, held from December 6 and 7 at Bigyan Bhavan New Delhi, concluded today.
The workshop, organized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education Government of India in association with UGC and AICTE was inaugurated by Union Minister of HRD Smriti Irani in the presence of the Union State Minister of HRD and chairman UGC and AICTE and many other eminent academicians as dais members.
The workshop was attended by State Higher Education Secretaries/Commissioners, Directors, Principals of colleges and Vice-Chancellors of Universities.
Two Regular Principals of Manipur - Dr Nabachandra Singh, Principal Lilong Haoreibi College and Dr MR Sheikh, Principal Manipur College and Nodal Officer of the Dhanamanjuri Community College attended the workshop representing the State Higher Education Department.
Dr MR Sheikh presented a paper at the morning session of the first day on December 6 highlighting the status and introduction of the two community colleges in Manipur - Churachandpur Community College and Dhanamanjuri Community College.
He also highlighted the scope, vision and strategy for taking up vocational skill based education in higher education in Manipur and drew the attention of the Ministry and the UGC for development of an educational and vocational hub at Imphal which is now the gateway of the Trans-Asian Super Highway.
The two Principals from Manipur also actively participated at the group meeting on policy formulation for certification of skills for community colleges and other programmes at the morning session of the second day and submitted the recommendations to the panel of members.
The recommendations were discussed and approved by the house.
The workshop also discussed the implementation of the new scheme called Kaushal in the near future.
