Imphal, August 06 2014:
Manipur State Women's Development Corporation under Social Welfare rehabilitation programme organised a vocational training and certification programme for women prisoners in Central jail, Manipur.
The main objective of the programme was to guide these women to a better and respectable life through hardwork.
Minister AK Mirabai, Chairperson of Women's Development Organisation, handed over certificates of honour to prisoners who had completed a 6 months embroidery and tailoring course through the programme.
When a woman adopts immoral ways of life, Mirabai said, it is not just herself that is effected but also the children of a society or the whole society for the matter.
Attempts are being made, Mirabai added, to spread awareness about Government schemes for women and children so that people could reap its benefit.
She further encouraged the prisoners to approach Social Welfare office, when they are released, to acquire details on these schemes.
Mirabai further stated that once these prisoners start earning, they would be less inclined to commit crimes but will spend the rest of their lives attempting to improve their financial condition.
Mirabai also contributed a sum of Rs 10,000 from her side for the project.
She also distributed embroidary machines to those who have completed the 6 months training programme.
The programme was also attended by the Social Welfare director Dr Rangitabali Waikhom and other jail staff.
