Out of 16 women in fray, three taste poll success

Imphal, March 06 2012:
Opening a new chapter in the political history of the State, three women candidates, out of the 16 contested, emerged winners in the 10th Manipur legislative Assembly polls, the results of which were declared today.
O Landhoni, a Congress candidate and wife of serving Chief Minister O.Ibobi retained the Khangabok seat in Thoubal district; AK Mirabai, also an INC candidate bagged Patsoi seat in Imphal West and MSCP candidate Nemcha Kipgen got the Kangpokpi seat in Senapati district.
O Landhoni Devi won the poll from Khangabok A/C for the second consecutive term.

Nemcha Kipgen won the election from Kangpokpi A/C while A.K Mirabhai has won from Patsoi A/C .
In the last Assembly, O Landhon was the lone woman legislator.
Prominent women candidates who have lost in the election include well known activist Oinam Indira Devi, Bountia Keishing and Shyamo Waikhom.
Oinam Indira Devi had contested against Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in Thoubal A/C on BJP ticket.
Bountia Keishing of MSCP was said to be a strong contender for Phungyar seat but lost to Congress candidate Victor Keishing while Shyamo Waikhom of Congress was defeated by an LJP candidate in Langthabal constituency.
