CCPur, January 02 2020:
On New Year's day yesterday, the Anti-Human Tra- fficking Unit (AHTU) of Churachandpur police secured the safe return of a local girl who had been sent to Singapore for working as a domestic helper through an agent but had been mentally and physically drained due to the foreign experience.
According to Churachandpur SP Amrita Sinha, the district police received a report on December 19 that a girl, around 19 years, left for Singapore on December 7 to be employed as a domestic helper through an agent identified as Ching-neikim d/o (L) Nangthang (staying near Zoumunnuam village) .
However, the girl reportedly could not adjust to the food habits and working environment under which domestic helpers were made to reside there, thus making her physically and mentally traumatized.
After receiving the report, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Churachandpur police activated its sources and based on enquiry, identified the agent, the SP informed, adding that a district police team picked up Chingneikim on December 21 from her residence.
She was examined thoroughly and was made to interact directly with the agent in Singapore who demanded Rs 2 lakh for the return of the victim girl.
After interventions from the authority's side, the Singapore agent finally agreed to settle at Rs 75000 (for air travel fare and other expenses) for the safe return of the girl on New Year's day.
Accordingly, the girl's parents sent the required amount in presence of the agent, CSO representatives and AHTU team, on December 23, said the SP.
Finally, yesterday at around 12.50 pm, the victim girl made a safe journey from Singapore and reached Imphal International Airport via Kolkata and was reunited with her family.
