Imphal, May 22 2013 :
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has called on Congress party workers to work together towards bringing development of the State with the mandate of being in Government given by the people of Manipur.
Gaikhangam, who is also the President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), was speaking at a one-day Block level political workers' convention organised by Sekmai Block Congress Committee at Sekmai SC Community hall today.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that people of the State voted Congress to power again for the third term by sending 42 candidates to Manipur Legislative Assembly in the 10th Assembly election.
He added, Congress leaders, workers and sympathisers must not take the mandate of absolute majority lightly.
It was a recognition of the masses regarding the good works done by the party during the two terms which witnessed Congress led coalition Governments.
Coming down heavily against political diatribes made by Opposition, Gaikhangam said that Opposition had to indulge in such tactics because of frustration and jealousy.
He also urged the Opposition to speak the truth instead of levelling false charges.
Even Opposition wants to be in Government, he said, however, it is quite natural to be frustrated and anguished as people have refused to hand over power to them.
Even if they have to criticise the Government, they must speak the truth, he added.
If it is the case, Congress is ready to rectify the mistakes, if there is any, he added.
Saying that Congress takes BJP as a responsible national party, Gaikhangam said that it was however unfortunate that the party had disrupted the proceedings during the recent Parliament session.
It was not right to hold protests on streets after walking out from the deliberations of national issues in the Parliament, he observed.
It seems that BJP does not respect the sanctity of the Parliament, Gaikhangam said, the party has seemingly forgotten the responsibility of an Opposition.
Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, MLA Nongthombam Biren and MLA and party Vice President T Mangibabu also attended the conference.
