Text books reduced to ashes

Volumes of text books and other articles were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out at a hostel cum dwelling house at Keishampat Mutum Leirak this morning.
Later, Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar visited the ravaged building and extended monetary aid to the house cum hostel owner.
According to information culled from the spot, a ferocious fire was seen raging through the second floor of the hostel named Special Boys Hostel at around 7.30 am.
It is suspected that the fire originated from electric short circuit or unattended flame.
Even though volumes of text books, notebooks and many articles were reduced to ashes, Manipur Fire Service personnel, Imphal West district police and people of the neighbourhood managed to contain the raging before it could do more damages.
The owner of the house identified as Keisham Amarjit (47) and his family live on the first floor and no damage was done to their floor but the text books, notebooks, beds, clothes and other articles kept on the second and third floors belonging to around 25 students were reduced to ashes.
Amarjit said that all the students left the hostel at around 6 am for coaching classes and tuition.
The fire broke out after all the students had left the hostel.
No one was injured in the fire, he said.
How many belongings of the students have been destroyed by the fire is not known yet, he added.
Apart from extending monetary aid from his MLA Local Area Development Fund to the house owner, L Jayantakumar said that he would see what the Government can do after consultation with the Chief Minister.
