Solar lamps to light up Ithing

In a noble step to provide electricity to energy deprived rural areas of the State, 'Mangaal Rural' under its banner fight against energy poverty distributed modern solar home lighting system today to 100 households of Ithing village, Thanga Part-II under Bishnupur district.
The solar home lighting systems were distributed to the villagers on easy instalment of Rs 18 per day and 10 solar street lights worth around Rs 1.7 lakh were also donated to the villagers.
Under the project, servicing, transportation, electrical fitting and maintenance will be provided free of cost to every customer, said Surjit, founder of 'Mangaal Rural'.
The solar home lighting system distributed today has a capacity to light four rooms easily besides having mobile charging facility.
Ithing village has about 212 households.
The project of Mangaal Rural is to create 100 solar villages in Manipur during 2016-17, he added.
President of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union, W Shamjai attended the function as the chief guest while Pradhan of Thanga Part-II Khwairakpam Binarani was the functional president.
Imphal's Special correspondent of The Telegraph, Khelen Thokchom was the guest of honour.
Citing the importance of electricity in today's life, Shamjai said the endeavour of Mangaal Rural to light up remote villages should be encouraged by the people.
He added that the young entrepreneurs under its project will provide opportunities for villagers to electrify their homes.
Such opportunity should be well endorsed by everyone.
While Binarani said the power supply here is very irregular and we cannot rely on it.
Such humble step from Mangaal Rural is an opportunity for villagers to march towards development.
She applauded the works of Mangaal Rural for bring in such project to Ithing village and also for providing the solar home lighting system at discount for disabled persons.
On the other hand Khelen Thokchom urged the villagers to spread the message of environment friendly power source.
Further he said that the villagers should be responsible enough to pay the instalment sum in time.
Earlier Mangaal Rural launched the project of creating 100 solar villages in Manipur at Chairel village, Thoubal district and also created first 100% solar powered village at Atom Khuman, Imphal West.
Mangaal Rural aims to distribute solar home lighting system to villagers of Bungte Khullen, Senapati district; Tronglaobi, Khudekpi, Leimaram, Torbung bazar Mamang, Ngarian, Phoungakchao Ikhai of Bishnupur district.
A half marathon under the theme, 'fight for a common cause, fight against energy poverty' will be held on April 24.The marathon aims to bring all communities together to fight for the common cause- energy poverty.
