Lamka, August 03 2014:
The Churachandpur-Imphal Taxi Owners Society today presented their side of the story that led to the arrest of their President Lunkholal.
CITOS information secretary today recalling the events said it was Dhanabir who made the first call and not Lunkholal as was reported in some newspapers.
He said, as there was a constant standoff between the two transport societies, Lunkholal was curious what Dhanabir had to say as their call cut midway due to poor signal and as such he had call Dhanabir back several times.
As for the men accompanying Lunkholal, he said that since their President was not very familiar with the location and cautious about the meeting set up late in the night and had indeed asked his friends for company.
They were there not to kidnap Dhanabir.
It was Dhanabir who had that intention instead, had it not been for the men accompanying Lunkholal, he argued.
Accusing Dhanabir of the man behind all troubles along the Churachandpur-Imphal road as a result of his attempt to wrest exclusive control over the stretch, CITOS said that his intension was driven only by personal greed with no hint to serve public interest.
People have opted for a better and faster means of transport with the change of time, and while CITOS has given that option to the public, Dhanabir was jealous about it and was utilising all means to stop anything that he cinsider is a threat to his monopoly.
The bandh call made by Dhanabir and his cohorts was an evident case of how far the buses are willing to go, even at the cost of public inconvenience, to serve their personal interest.
People are happy with the better and faster mode of transportation provided by Wingers and they will more happy if rail heads or choppers services are introduce.
It is the desire of everyone and every government to have a better and faster means of conveyance but Dhanabir and Co simply can't stand to see that or rather a develop society as the only thing thy wanted is people to travel for hours which otherwise can be covered in an hour or less and that too inside the comfort of their choking and obsolete buses.
These men are anti people, anti development.
Personal benefit is their only concern and CITOS will never allow that to happen.
As long as the people live along the Tedim Road CITOS will never cease to stop its service, he said.
