Imphal, February 02, 2012:
On the wake of the re-poll to be held on February 4, the Village Chief of Chingmun village under Tipaimukh A/C V Thonkhanson today appealed to the concerned officials to allow the villagers to exercise their voting rights in the re-poll.
Speaking to reporters in a press meet, the village chief said that the Presiding officer and the Booth Level Officer (BLO) told the villagers on the morning of the poll day that only 20 out of the 155 voters of the village can cast their votes since the names and photos in the electoral roll do not match the voters who came to vote.
Frustrated with the statement of the officials and the mistake made by the BLO, villagers snatched and broke the EVM.
While blaming the BLO for the mistake in the names and photos in the electoral roll, he appealed to the CEO Manipur to allow all the 155 voters of the village to exercise their voting rights.
Village Secretary Paukhan Khai, Youth President M Nenthanlian, Assistant Secretary of Zoumi Council Vangai Range Songangkhup and social worker M Doupau Guite also attended the press meet.
