Imphal, April 24 2011:
Social worker N Itomba Meetei along with local elders Aliemie Kamei and Bijoy Golmei, and Keirao Bitra Loumee Lup advisor W Suresh handed over chemically-treated mosquito nets to residents of Karpursungba village on the Baruni Hill range.
Speaking as the functional president Aliemie Kamei expressed gratitude to the social worker for taking the initiative to protect the villagers from vector borne diseases apart from highlighting problems of clean drinking water in the locality.
He also claimed that the local representative had already been apprised to install a hand-pump for ameliorating the chronic problem but to no avail till date.
In his address, W Suresh demanded a white paper on welfare programmes, if any, undertaken by the MLA concerned under the Tribal Development Department.
Noting that tribal villages in Keirao AC are deprived of development, with problem of drinking water the most severe, Suresh called upon the people to chose their representative who would work in tandem with the people and in their interest rather than some individuals whose only concern after election would be to amass wealth.
