Book on social exclusion, marginalisation of North East States released

A 196 paged book entitled 'Social exclusion, marginalisation and deprivation in Manipur' edited by Dr Thiyam Bharat, Reader of the Centre for Study of Social Exclusion & Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), Manipur University, was released during a simple function held at the Court Hall of Manipur University on January 6.The book touches the issue of social exclusion, marginalisation and deprivation of North East States particularly Manipur.
Adya Prasad Pandey, who assumed charge as the new VC of Manipur University in October end last year; School and Social Science Dean Prof N Lokendra and Director of CSSEIP Prof E Binoy attended the release function as chief guest, guest of honour and functional president respectively.
Dr N Damodar of Economics Department, MU, highlighted the important topics and social issues featured in the book.
Vice Chancellor Prof Adya Prasad Pandey, in his speech at the occasion, assured that the grievances being faced by the University will be looked into.
"I will try to do my best to address the current grievances of these centres," VC Prof Pandey said.
"It is also necessary to release more such books by other departments (of the University)" .
There are around eight centres under Manipur University.
They are, Educational Multimedia Research Centre, Centre for Entrepreneurship & Skill Development, CSSEIP, Centre for Manipur Studies, Centre for Myanmar Studies, Gandhian Studies, Research Instrumentation and Human Rights & Duties Education.
All these centres are facing various problems including non-disbursement of salaries on regular basis, Prof N Lokendra informed.
Director of CSSEIP Prof E Bijoy encouraged his faculty members to write more such books.
Giving recognition to the centre, the authority here has requested CSSEIP to start a 3 month project to prepare a 2030 vision document for the State Government, he said while informing the gathering that a proposal has been sent to the North Eastern Council for construction of a separate building foe CSSEIP.
Earlier, Dr Nepram Damodar of Economics Department, Manipur University, briefly reviewed the book which is based on research papers presented at the two-day International seminar organized by CSSEIP and sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research.
