Imphal, November 04 2010:
With the CRPF no more providing escort service to Imphal-bound oil tankers along National Highway-39, transportation of petroleum products to Manipur has remained suspended since October 30 .
In the absence of the escort service, over 100 trucks carrying petroleum products have been reportedly stranded at Khatkhati.
Talking to The Sangai Express in this connection, DIG Raghava of CRPF Group Centre, Langjing informed that CRPF used to provide escort service to Imphal bound trucks from Khatkhati to Mao and again from Mao to Imphal under an agreement which was extended from time to time.
However, with the expiry of the current agreed period, the escort service has been stopped.

Most of the personnel in the escort party were being utilised from the training companies of the CRPF located at different places like Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, the officer disclosed, adding that the personnel would not be assigned any duty until arrival of an order from the higher authority.
Information received from the Imphal Division office of IOC said that with no more petroleum products being lifted after the CRPF has stopped escorting the oil tankers, the existing stock in the IOC depot is depleting fast.
So for the time being the depots would not be in operation on Fridays and Saturdays.
The difficulties being faced following depletion of fuel stock in the depots after the CRPF stopped providing escort service has already been brought to the notice of the Chief Secretary as well as the Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, the source said.
In earlier instances too, the CRPF had stopped escort service on expiry of the agreement.
But the agreement was extended after approaching the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Petroleum Ministry, the source recalled.
Expiry of the agreed period was known when the control room of CRPF was contacted, the source said, adding that efforts are being made from the side of IOC to urge the Ministry of Home Affairs to continue with the escort service.
Sources in the State Home Department disclosed that a letter has been written to the Ministry of Home Affairs for continued escort service by CRPF to the Imphal-bound oil tankers until normalcy returns to the State.
