Imphal, September 03 2011:
An emergency executive committee meeting of the Care Me Group (an association of the drug users of Moreh) was held today in their office at Moreh and deliberated on the numerous problems faced by the drug users in the light of the ongoing bandh on Imphal-Moreh route.
The meeting decried Government's indifferent attitude to the woes of the drug users of Moreh despite many pleas made by the group in the past.
Drug users of the town have been facing untold miseries as the prolonged blockade has sealed all their sources of income.
As most of the drug users have been earning their livelihood working as porters, cart-pullers and casual labourers, they have been suffering immensely because of the prolonged bandh, conveyed the group in a press release.
Despite the potential threat and risk of becoming drug addict and contracting HIV due to the town's close proximity to the Golden Triangle, the Government has no concern to set up a single rehabilitation centre at the border town.
Even when the drug users are ready to give up drugs and wish to join the mainstream, the existing system does not support them, it lamented.
The group also urged the Government to set up a rehabilitation centre as well as a full fledged ART centre at the border town without further delay.
