State team leaves for National Handloom Expo 2020

A group of 65 members from Manipur has left for Agartala to take part in the National Handloom Expo 2020, which is set to kick off from March 5 at Abhay Nagar in Tripura.
Handlooms & Textiles Director K Lamlee Kamei and Deputy Director E Jiten flagged off the group, who are from the field concerned, from Keishampat today.
Speaking to reporters before the flagging off ceremony, Director K Lamlee said that the National Handloom Expo 2020, Agartala is being organised in connection with Holi by the Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles Manipur and Manipur Handloom Development Corporation Ltd under the sponsorship of Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, GoI.
He continue that trip to Agartala has been organised to showcase and sell the State-made products/items of handlooms and textiles while adding that it will benefit the State weavers as well.
The Director expressed hope that the trip will help the members in experiencing and exploring trending products, new designs apart from learning about what type of garments/designs people prefer.
The Ministry also included the expenses for bus fares and TA/DA for the outgoing 65 members when it sanctioned fund for the expo, K Lamlee added.
The National Handloom Expo is also set to be organised at metropolitan cities like Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru, the Director informed.
Saying that National Handloom expo is organised every year, he mentioned that event is being organised at Agartala as there is an opportunity for the made in Manipur handloom and textiles products to get to Bangladesh, as it is closer to Tripura, and the people in Tripura have been requesting to organise the expo there.
He further informed that a Shumang Leela will be performed on March 18, the last day of the expo, following a request of the Manipuri diasporas in Tripura.
Necessary preparations have been made to make the event a success, he added.
