Imphal, November 21 2020:
A 35 year-old man succumbed to bullet injuries after he was shot at allegedly by his own uncle Gurumayum Molecule Sharma at Chingamathak Ngakraba Leirak under Singjamei police station today morning.
G Molecule Sharma allegedly shot the 35-year-old victim identified as Surajkumar Gurumayum with a double barrel licensed gun.
According to police sources, the incident took place at around 10.15 am.
G Molecule was sitting near the Mandap of his residence when he shot Surajkumar who was approaching from a short distance.
The bullet hit Surajkumar's right hand and chest.
Molecule then fled the scene and Suraj was evacuated to Raj Medicity in serious condition where he succumbed due to the gunshot wounds.
Surajkumar was son of Gope of Chingamathak Ngakraba Leirak and was working as a Junior Telecom Officer (JTO) in BSNL, Manipur SSA.
Police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the shooting.
It may be noted that Gurumayum Molecule Sharma had contested State Legislative Assembly elections from Singjamei AC in 1995 as an independent candidate, 1990 as Janta Dal candidate and in 1984 as an Independent candidate.
Speaking to the media persons, Surnolata, elder sister of the deceased stated that G Molecule had allegedly threatened his brother with a licensed gun some months back.
Molecule had also allegedly made an attempt to kill by driving a four wheeler vehicle over her brother.
A case regarding this is still pending before Court, she said.
She appealed to the Home Department and authorities concerned to take up all possible steps to arrest G Molecule and give befitting punishment according to law at the earliest.
Meanwhile, a JAC (Joint Action Committee) against the incident has been formed whereas the dead body has been deposited at the RIMS morgue for post-mortem.
Singjamei Police have registered a case under Section 302 IPC for further investigation of the case.
Employees of BSNL have condoled the demise of Surajkumar and shared the pain and grief of the bereaved family members.
A condolence meeting was held at the BSNL conference hall at 3.30 pm and all members present observed two minutes silence for the departed soul to rest in peace, said a statement issued by Assistant General Manager (Admin), BSNL Manipur SSA.
