While appreciating the positive response of the Prime Minister to the memorandum submitted by the MPP Chanura Marup on issue pertaining to border fencing, the Chanura Marup of MPP reminded the PM that it would be unacceptable to the people of the State to lose their land any more.
A statement issued by the president (In-charge) of MPP Chanura Marup, Chandrakala Devi pointed out that Kabow Valley was lost in 1953 and Namphalong in 1970 as a result of the Govt of India's interest to please the Myanmarese Govt even at the cost of Manipur's territory.
In the light of the alleged recent direction of the Govt of India to State Congress leaders to restrain themselves from visiting the border area, no Congressmen of the State could raise a finger against the directive, it pointed out.
The Chanura Marup statement strongly urged the PM to finalise the boundary demarcation first and take up the border fencing work as per international norms.
The Govt of India should understand that giving away land in the name of border fencing to please the Myanmarese authorities would only create an atmosphere of enmity between the Manipuris and Myanmarese that could ultimately backfire on the unity of India, it stated.
Asserting that the Chanura Marup would maintain a strict vigil on the work of the Home Ministry on border fencing, the statement pledged to take up any action any time against the Govt if the Govt ever attempt to set the Manipuris against the Myanmarese.
