Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West Lamkhanpau Tonsing has directed Imphal West SP to provide adequate security to Irom Chanu Sharmila for her appearance before the Court on August 23 regarding the ongoing trial under Cril (P) case number 28 of 2016 .
The order was passed following an application filed by Sharmila's counsel L Rebeda Devi.
After perusing the application, the Court passed an order stating that the Court is satisfied with the submission that there is great security risk for Sharmila.
The Court directed Imphal West SP to provide adequate security cover to the anti-AFSPA campaigner for her Court appearance on August 23 .
It may be mentioned that Irom Chanu Sharmila (38) d/o (L) Irom Nanda of Kongpal Kongkham Leikai was released on bail by the Court after she furnished a PR bond of Rs 10,000 on August 9 .
After some hours of her release, she broke her 16 years long fast by tasting a drop of honey before the media.
During her last Court appearance, three prosecution witnesses women cloth vendor Haobam Tombi, Senior Medical Officer (CMO Imphal West) Dr Oinam Anjana Devi and City police station ASI L Ranjitasana deposed before the Court on the ongoing trial against Sharmila under Section 309 taken up by City police station under FIR number 31 (3) for staging indefinite hunger strike at BT Park in the first week of March in pursuance of the demand for repeal of AFSPA.
Peeved with her sudden decision to break her fast and announcing her intention to join electoral politics and marry her boyfriend, a large number of protesters blocked Sharmila's way when police brought her to the house of Dr Th Suresh at Keishamthong Laishom Leirak on August 9 last.
