Gorkhas celebrate Bhasa Niwas

The Gorkhalis in Manipur under the aegis of
Nepali Sahitya Parishad, Manipur today cel-
ebrated the 25th Bhasa Niwas at community
hall, Kanglatongbi, our correspondent reports.
The celebration was graced by Sekmai
AC MLA Kh Devendro Singh; Dr GP
Prasain, HoD, Department of Commerce,
MU; Shiva Kumar Basnet, Pradhan,
Kanglatongbi Gram Panchayat and Lok
Bahadur Basnet, president, Nepali Sahitya
Parishad, Manipur as chief guest, guests of
honour and president respectively.
Hundreds of Gorkhalis in the presence of
the dignitaries paid tribute to prominent
Gorkha leader (L) Kishore Thapa, ex-MLA
by observing 2 minutes of silence.
Cultural performances and poetry recita-
tion by prominent poets from different
communities were the main highlight of the
celebration.
Nepali language was recognized by the
Indian Constitution on August 20, 1992
when the Government of India passed the 71
Amendment Act on 8th Scheduled of the
Indian Constitution, general secretary of
Nepali Sahitya Parisad Manipur, Kritimini
Khatiwoda said.
