Cadet Rocky Wahengbam, who studied in Sainik School Imphal upto Class X has become the first student from the School as well as from the north Eastern region to be selected for study at the prestigious Global Indian International School (GIIS) Junior College, Singapore.
According to a PIB (DW) release, Global Indian Foundation will provide scholarship amount of 66,000 Singapore Dollar (30 lakhs INR) for two years to Rocky in addition to bearing related expenses during his study at GIIS.
Informing that Rocky, the eldest son of Wahengbam Ranjit and Radharani of Toubul Makha Leikai, Bishnupur district was selected from Kolkata centre from among eight schools where they went through three stringent phases of selection tests, the PIB (DW) release also recounted that Rocky had bagged first position in the State Talent Search Exam (1st Phase).
Having secured the top position in the said Exam, Govt of Manipur sponsored Rocky to receive scientific Training Programmes twice at BOSE Institute, Kolkata and Darjeeling along with Cadet Chingthang Khomba, another product of Sainik School, Imphal.
Rocky is informed to have stood All India 3rd Rank in NSTSE of Unified Council, Hyderabad granting him scholarship for three years.
He also represented Sainik School in the All India Quiz competition organised by Readers' Digest held at Bokaro along with Cadet Dhanakumar and secured 4th position out of 106 students.
