Imphal, February 21 2012:
The International Mother Language Day observance was held today at Manipur Press Club under the joint aegis of Research Forum Manipur (Keishampat), State Council of Educational Research & Training (Govt of Manipur) and Manipuri Department (Manipur University) .
speaking on the occasion, Registrar (MU) Prof N Lokendro Singh rating Manipuri language as one of the most rapidly developing languages of the world expressed that advancement of a particular dialect is highly dependent on its usage in a decent way.
Noting that Manipuri dialect has been the lingua franca of the State which is evident through its usage at any place having mixed-population, the professor exuded confidence of further development of Manipuri language through the continuous contribution of Manipuri sportspersons, cultural activists and literary figures.
He also affirmed that Manipuri is a dynamic language for it has enough room to incorporate dialects of more developed society.
Highlighting richness of Manipuri language, Prof N Rajmohon of Chemistry Dept (MU) said dialect and script are the common deciding factors for every ethnic community of the world to determine its advancement.
While Manipur is fortunate enough to have its own history of over 90 years of distinct language and dialect it is a cause for resentment that inspite of existence of its own script, script of other nationality is being more widely used, said the professor who also suggested that Manipuri dialect could be further enriched in case acclaimed foreign literary works could be translated into Manipuri language.
