Imphal, December 28 2014:
The All India Trinamool Congress, Manipur State unit has asserted that skulls and skeletons discovered from the erstwhile Tombisana High School campus might be of those people who disappeared involuntarily before they were killed and murdered by security forces in secret.
Speaking to some media persons at his Kangla Park official residence today, AITC State unit president Th Shyamkumar pointed out that there have been many cases of people killed by security forces under dubious circumstances under the immunity guaranteed by the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
The same Act is also instrumental for many cases of involuntary disappearance.
As some of the skulls and skeletons discovered from Tombisana High School campus were not buried for long, there is a strong possibility that those skulls and skeletons belonged to people who disappeared involuntarily before they were killed and buried, Shyamkumar asserted.
Instead of tempering the issue on the excuse of awaiting results of laboratory tests, the Government should work on identifying the skulls and skeletons by sending samples of family members of those who have disappeared for DNA tests.
As many skulls and skeletons have been discovered from Tombisana High School campus which was once occupied by CRPF and police commandos, suspected sites of Kangla fort which was under the occupation of Assam Rifles for a protracted period, CRPF camp of Langjing and the Army camp located within Imphal airport complex should be excavated to find out if anyone has been buried there.
Strongly condemning the bomb attacks carried out at Imphal city, Shyamkumar opined that the three consecutive bomb blasts which killed many people within a month looked like a conspiracy.
The incumbent Government has failed miserably when it comes to maintenance of law and order.
Although CBI has been investigating the fake encounter case in which Rabina and Sanjit were shot dead, many police personnel allegedly involved in the fake encounter are being posted in Imphal West district thereby sending a wrong message to all concerned, Shyamkumar said.
Maintenance of law and order has collapsed because of undue interference by politicians in the transfer and posting of police officers.
CCTV cameras are deliberately made non-functional so that police personnel can commit all kinds of unlawful activities, he alleged.
Imphal West SP should be held accountable for all the bomb blasts which rocked different parts of Imphal city recently.
Moreover, all the police officers currently posted in Imphal West district should be transferred elsewhere enmasse.
Calling all those persons/organisations who were responsible for the fatal bomb blasts cowards, Shyamkumar appealed to all concerned to refrain from such violent activities in future.
