Imphal, December 28 2014:
Protection of Agricultural Land and Natural Resources Organisation has decided to conduct spot assessment of the sites proposed/offered for setting up of a Sports University and submit its report to the Govt within January 10 next year.
Speaking to reporters today at Manipur Press Club, adviser of Protection of Agricultural Land and Natural Resources Organisation, Mutum Churamani said that there has been unrest in 44-Yaithibi Loukon area as the people rose in protest against the reported Govt's plan to set up the Sports University in the area.
He said that vast agriculture lands of the State are lost due to several policies of the Govt, which totally disregard the value of the agriculture land.
This has discouraged and dampened the spirit of many progressive farmers thus leaving them in the lurch.

As such, the Govt should set up the proposed Sports University at a suitable site in the interest of the farmers, he said.
Churamani further said that PALNRO would constitute a sub-committee to conduct spot enquiry at the proposed sites for setting up the Sports University and submit its report to the Govt within Jan 10, 2015 .
Saying that the Sports University should not in any way be withdrawn from the State, Churamani also said that the Govt should be held responsible in the event of shifting the University to other States.
He also urged the authority concerned to immediately implement the Conservation of Paddy and Wet Land Act, 2014, which was recently passed in the Assembly.
