1st State Level Training programme held

The first State Level Training programme for master trainer and supervisors was held at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound today, in connection with 20th Livestock Census 2017 .
Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Principal Secretary L Lakher, Director Dr H Chaoba, Deputy Director (Statistics) Dr H Kunjo and Joint Director (Planning) Dr Ch Nandakishore took part in the event as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the event, Dr Ch Nandakishore said that the census which is performed every five years, will start from July 15 upto October 15 .
The census was carried out for only one month in the previous operation.
He pointed out that the census would be carried out over the course of a three month period this year due to strict instructions given by the Indian Government demanding immaculate and precise data and information.
Data on species of various animals and birds would be collected by enumerators as a part of the census.
Animals and birds already identified by the National Bureau of Animal Genetics Resources would also be included in the census along with the names and profiles of the owners.
"The census would be performed through a tablet which will be supplied to the enumerators and supervisors", he added.
202 enumerators and 44 supervisors will cover the State with each enumerators handling 450 households in case of the valley and 250 in case of the hills.
Each supervisor will handle five enumerators for the census.
Written survey and data collection through interview of Panchayat pradhan/member or village chiefs are strictly prohibited.
He pointed out that the Directorate would double check the authenticity of the data collected on the GPS enabled tablets adding that the data would be collected again if any discrepancies are found.
The data would be sent from enumerators to the supervisor and passed to District Census officer, the Directorate and the Ministry.
The Joint Director further conveyed that the State level training programme would be organised five more times and a district level programme would be held twice.
Principal Secretary L Lakher said that the Census report will form the crux for future development projects and works and urged the trainers, master trainers and supervisors to perform their duties diligently to ensure the success of the programme.
