Imphal, April 24 2017:
Five more election petitions have been filed at the High Court of Manipur against five sitting MLAs of 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly charging the MLAs of violating the provisions of Representative of People's Act, 1951 while submitting their nomination papers and other relevant documents for the recently concluded State Assembly election.
The petitions were filed by BJP candidate of the election from Tipaimuk AC Dr Lallukhum Fimate against sitting Congress MLA Dr Chaltonlien Amo and seven others, BJP candidate from Thangmeiband AC Jyotin Waikhom against sitting Congress MLA Kh Joykisan and others, Congress candidate from Kshetrigao AC Amin Shah against Parliamentary Secretary (MAHUD) N Indrajit and five others, Congress candidate from Keishamthong AC L Ibomcha against Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayentakumar and six others and NEIDP candidate from Patsoi AC S Kunjakeswor @ Keba against sitting Congress MLA Ak Mirabai and three others.
Sources said the petitions are under the possession of administration and waiting for approval of the Court.
The six election petitions filed in the Court a few days back have been admitted by the Court for proceedings, it added.
Meanwhile, NEIDP candidate S Kunjakeswor has affirmed that he had filed the election petition in the Court praying for recounting of votes in Patsoi AC as gross irregularities were suspected while counting the votes for the Constituency in the 11th State Assembly election.
Addressing a press meet held the office of NEIDP located at Sagolband, Kunjakeswor said that he was compelled to file the election petition as the officials concerned ignored his call.
He pointed out that commencing counting of votes before not finishing counting of postal ballots is not acceptable.
He assured NEIDP is a people-centric political party and will not ever indulge in cheap politics.
He expressed optimism that the Court would pass directives either for recounting of votes or conduct of re-election in Patsoi AC.
