Ukhrul, April 24 2017:
Hunphun Katamnao Long Football Club edged past TNVSA FC by 3 goals to 2 via the tie break in the first semi-final of the TKS football tournament today at Tashar village ground to enter the final.
A closely fought affair, the match lived up to the billing of a semi-final clash and HKL FC struck early in the 5th minute of the match when Ragui managed to beat a couple of defenders and put the ball past the custodian of the rival team to put his team ahead.
Stung by the early goal, TNVSA fought back hard and with some brilliant moves managed to take control of the mid-field.
However the defence line of HKL stood firm and all the good moves from the midfield were nullified.
Lemon break was taken with HKL taking a one goal lead.
In the second half of the match, TNVSA put more men in the attack and started making inroads into the territory of the rival team with some quick moves down the flanks.
Off one such move, the ball was taken deep down the flank of HKL and the ball was centred well.
Neatly trapping the ball, a lurking forward of TNVSA drove the ball past the hand of the custodian of RKL and bring TNVSA back into the match in the 65th minute.
With the two teams tied at one goal apiece, both teams tried to break the deadlock with some fast running and crisp passing.
However the winning goal eluded both teams.
The long whistle was blown with the two teams evenly matched.
Penalty shoot out was ultimately resorted to and here the custodian of HKL rose to the occasion to effect three saves and carry the day for HKL FC by the margin of three goals to two.
In the second semi-final match of the day, RKL FC downed Aze FC by four goals to three to set up a final date with HKL.
The final between RKL and HKL will be played tomorrow afternoon at Tashar village ground and the winner will walk away with the TKS trophy.
