United Nations Day On October 24 RPF calls to unmask 'Indian policy'

On the occasion of the United Nations Day which falls on October 24, the proscribed RPF has called upon all the people of Manipur to unmask the alleged double-standard policy of the Government of India, and at the same time put forward Manipur's stance for self determination.
Recalling all the historc episodes of the British conquest of Manipur, their departure, establishment of elected Government and the merger into the Indian Union, the outfit pointed out that India too was British colony for a much longer period and it has its history of freedom struggle.
Declaring their faith in the UN principle of right to self determination, the Government of India too has ratified the UN charter.
However, the Government of India has been stubbornly refusing to recognise Manipuri people's movement for right to self determination.
The Government of India has been deliberately overlooking the fact that India and Manipur are two separate countries, when viewed either from the perspectives of history or culture.
Rather than acknowledging the historical rights of the people of Manipur, the Government of India has been projecting the freedom fighters as terrorists or secessionists, said a press release issued by the outfit's Publicity Secretary T Leisemba.
Stating that the UNO has completed 67 years, the outfit observed that the international body has been working to resolve all outstanding issues involving two or more nations across the world.
During the World War II, Manipur was a crucial battlefield for rival imperialist forces.
Because of the war, Manipuri people suffered extensive internal displacement.
It was before the World War II, many world leaders took up initiative to set up an international body like the UNO whose main objectives as enshrined in its First Article are to ensure peace and security across the world, promote friendly relationship among different countries and mutual cooperation among different countries in the fields of culture, economy and at times of natural calamities.
The UNO has also been consistently advocating right to self determination for all nations.
One remarkable function of the UNO is its efforts to enact an international law which should be abided by all nations.
The International Law Commission in its report submitted to the UN in 1950 laid down rules of punishment for violating rules of armed confrontation, violation of human rights, repression, invasion and conquest, and genocide.
The roles played the UN during the decolonisation process should be appreciated.
The roles played by the UN in Namibia, East Timor and South Sudan are worth remembering.
The UN has also been strongly advocating the right to self determination for all those nations reeling under foreign occupation, it added.
