CM promises welfare policy for artistes

Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the root cause of the present unrest in the State is the mistakes committed in the past .
Speaking as the chief guest at the 9th and 10th Manipur State Film Awards Distribution Ceremony organised at the auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) today by Manipur State Film Development Society, the Chief Minister stressed that if people worked sincerely and honestly in the past, the present society would not be facing various issues like conflict between the communities, illegal immigration etc .
Past is past but the present generation should be cautious to avoid mistakes of the past, he added .
N Biren stated that the present Government would ensure transparency in governance to avoid the past mistakes .
Condemning the burning of effigy recently during a protest, Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated that the present Government is committed to bringing positive changes in the State and the Govt won't do anything which is wrong or against the aspirations of the people of the State .
He further stated that the present Government has already initiated people oriented schemes which aim to deliver good governance with a human touch .
Stating that Government's intervention is needed to support the artists of the State, he said that the Government is working out a welfare policy for better livelihood, to uplift the living standards and welfare of the performing artistes and their families in the State .
N Biren lamented that although Manipur is a small State, it is indeed a matter of pride that the films of the State have brought many laurels in the National and International arena.
He mentioned that the State has huge potential and talents in the field of cinema however the number of people who give due recognition, appreciation and support for those who work hard in such fields, is less .
Mentioning some of the initiatives of the present Government, N Biren Singh said that 'Imphal Evenings' was introduced to present an opportunity for the people to spend some quality time with their families and friends together and to show to the world that Manipur is no more a conflict ridden State.
He stated that various MoUs worth Rs 5000 to 6000 crore have been signed with different companies during the recently concluded North East Development Summit (NEDS) 2017.The Government will be signing an MoU with a company for setting up a Private Medical College in the State soon, he added.
On the occasion, he announced that he would be visiting Behiang border village between India and Myanmar on December 19 and would be laying the foundation stone for the construction of Maharaja Chandrakriti Memorial Park .
Delivering his presidential speech, Minister for Art and Culture L Jayantakumar Singh said that even though the journey of Manipuri films is just beginning, it has brought many laurels for the State in both National and International platforms in such as short span .
He further announced that MSFDS would be screening films from various States and countries on every Saturdays and Sundays, for the film lovers of the State, soon .
As a part of the occasion, the Chief Minister conferred awards to veteran artists Oinam Biramangol Singh and Lourembam (o) Pishak .
They were conferred Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contribution towards Manipuri Cinema .
RK Kaiku Singh and Tonthoi Leishangthem were also conferred the Best Actor and Best Actress awards .
Various film awards in the different categories were also given to various artists during the award ceremony.
