Rhythms of Manipur enthrals Trinidad and Tobago

A ten member troupe of the Rhythms of Manipur which went on a week-long tour at the Island Nation, Trinidad and Tobago, Port of Spain from December 7 to 12 reached Manipur after successfully showcasing and presenting varieties of Manipuri performing arts including Manipuri Martial Arts, Dhol Cholom, Maibi Jagoi, Lai-Haraoba/Thougal Jagoi, Kabui Naga dance, Stick dance and Fusion music numbers .
The tour was sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and organised by the High Commission of India, Trinidad, Mahatama Gandhi Institute for Cultural Co-operation in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Development Culture and the Arts of Trinidad and Tobago , under the cultural exchange programme of the two countries .

During the tour, the group performed at three different places of Trinidad and Tobago namely Felicity Hindu School Cacandee Road, Felicity, Shri Siddhi Vinayaaka Avocat Mandir, Avocat Village, Fyzabad and Central Bank Auditorium, Port of Spain on December 8, 9 and 11 respectively .
A workshop cum fusion performance with the National Steel Symphony Orchestra of Trinidad and Tobago was also held .
In all three venues, the thrilling performance of the Rhythms of Manipur received standing ovation from the audience .
The performances were widely covered by the local daily, television channels and Radio.
One of the newspaper wrote "Manipur dancers thrill the deep south" and reported about the performance held in Fyzabad on December 9 .
The last day of the show in which Minister of Community Development, Culture & Arts, Trindad and Tobago, Dr Nyan Gadsby Dolly, High Commissioner of India, Bishwadip Dey and diplomats of different countries attended , witnessed various performances including fusion music with the National Steel Symphony Orchestra .
The half hour fusion music performance was one of the special item of the evening which was performed only after doing the workshop.
