Senapati, August 12 2017:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has directed the Nagas not to participate in the Independence Day celebration organised by the district administrations in the 7 new districts of Kangpokpi, Jiribam, Noney, Kakching, Tengnoupal, Kamjong and Pherzawl.
However, the UNC said that it has no issue with Independence Day celebrations organised by educational institutions and other private offices in these 7 new districts.
“This is to protest against the arbitrary creation of the new districts by the communal government of Manipur headed by O bobi Singh,” said the UNC .
According to the UNC, Nagas have come all along defending their land even before the creation of Manipur State or even before the Constitution of India was made.
“This spirit of defending our land will not die as long as we exist,” said the UNC .
Meanwhile, UNC President Gaidon Kamei will be gracing ‘Thangal General Martyr’s Day’ as chief guest on August 13 .
The programme will be held at Thangal General Ecological Park at Mayangkhang in Senapati district organised by Thangal Naga Union.
