Imphal, August 12 2017:
Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has alleged that manipulation by the Agriculture Department in the selection of State nominees for B Sc (Agriculture) and allied courses has victimised a student who has made the cut for B Sc (Community Science) course .
Speaking to media persons at its office located at Sagolband, assistant secretary general of DESAM Sheetal Oinam said Sonia Yengkokpam of Top Awang Leikai made the cut for B Sc (Community Science) course as per the result of the All India selection test for B Sc (Agriculture) and allied courses .
However, due to a manipulation by the Department concerned, the student has been left out .
As such, the department should constitute a probe into the matter and punish the officials involved, DESAM demanded.
The student body also demanded that the Department should compensate the victim student adequately .
Sheetal Oinam warned that DESAM would launch intense forms of agitation unless the demands are met at the earliest .
A total of 47 students were to be selected as State nominees to pursue various courses in CAU, Imphal and various colleges under it .
Selection of State nominees are made by the Agriculture Department on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the All India Entrance exam for Admission 2017 .
Sonia Yengkokpam applied for B Sc (Community Science).
Six girls students were recommended for the same course by the State.
As per the marksheet obtained by Sonia through internet, she made the cut for the course she had applied for and got more marks than the second candidate recommended for the course in the unreserved category, Sheetal said .
The first candidate recommended in the unreserved category for B Sc (Community Science) got 140 marks while the second and third candidates recommended got 83 and 70 marks respectively.
The candidate recommended for the same course in the OBC category got 66 marks.
Ironically, Sonia got 86 marks .
However, due to manipulation by the Department concerned, she has been left out, Sheetal added .
Such unfair selection has done great damage to the career of the student who has been preparing for months to give the exam.
As such, the Dept should investigate into the matter and punish the guilty officials.
Sonia should also be compensated adequately by the Department, DESAM warned.
