22nd LSA meet from Jan 10 at Oklong

The first Zeliangrong village 'Oklong' located at Guangphungning of Senapati district will host the 22nd Liangmai Sports Meet 2012 from January 10 to 21 .
Being a sports festival of Zeliangrong community spread across Manipur, Nagaland and Assam, the festival will create an opportunity for the young youths to coming back in their ancestral village.
The Liangmai Sports Meet 2012 meet will be an inclusive venture to showcase the energetic talents of young people in sports, music and culture.
Speaking in a press conference held yesterday at Imphal Hotel, a spokesperson of the organising committee mentioned that the meet would give the youths an opportunity to carry messages of brotherhood among Zeliangrong people.
He maintained that the Zeliangrong community (Zeme, Liangmai, Puimei) were migrated from Makhel and started settling in the present Oklong (Guangphungning) .
He further mentioned that Zeliangrong community did not have any written history or records but the story passed by elders obviously indicated that Oklong was the first place where the community settled and it was the name which was given by the British officers of that time.
The president of Liangmai sports association, Dara Newmai explained that the meet will share unity and understanding among the same fold with a meaningful celebration of home coming.
The rock concert which is to be organised on January 14 will be the first ever concert held in the village.
