Trainers' training programme held

A one day State level trainers' training programme on 'bio-fertilizers' has been conducted today at the conference hall of Directorate of Agriculture.
As chief guest of the programme, Director (Horticulture) K Ngachan advised the farmers that there should be regular consultation with department experts in order to ensure bumper yield.
He also called upon experts in the field of horticulture, agriculture and fishery department officials to build a healthy relationship with the farmers and provide them all possible technical or material assistance.
The Director also emphasised that District Agriculture Officers should ensure that the local farmers get all relevant information with regard to use of bio fertilizers for a sustainble growth of food crops.
Director (Fisheries) K Saratkumar, in his address said study is on to determine what chemicals or preservatives are used by traders outside Manipur which allow storage of imported fishes for a comparative long period of time.
Speculating that apart from keeping the fishes in ice box/pack certain chemicals or preservatives might be used in imported fish to prevent them from rotting, he informed the gathering that samples have been sent to Manipur University and ICAR experts to study the case.
Expressing confidence that outcome of the study will also enable the local fishmen and traders to store the fish for a longer period of time, he assured all possible assistance by the Department to enhance fish production in Manipur.
Director (agriculture) L Palandro, who also addressed the gathering, infor med that fertilizers for a season's use in Manipur have to be brought in before onset of monsoons due to various factors.
