All Manipur Elementary School Teacher's Association (AMESTA) celebrated World Teacher's Day at Manipur Press Club today.
Speaking at the occasion, AMESTA general secretary Ch Shantakumar expressed concern over State Government's failure in clearing due salary of 10 months for 1603 Primary, Hindi Primary and Hindi Graduate teachers, who had been appointed on December 15 last year.
Likewise, 11 months salary for Graduate teachers under RMSA have also not been cleared, he added.
Such lackadaisical attitude of the Government would give a negative impact to the morale of the teachers, he added.
Saying that this year's theme for the celebration is 'Take a stand for teachers', Shantakumar said that World Teachers' Day has been being celebrated annually on October 5 since 1994 .
T Rameshwar while speaking at the occasion expressed concern for the children who could not go to schools due to poverty.
Lauding the contribution of the teachers to the society, he said that teachers have been playing an important role in developing and shaping the society.
President of AMESTA, T Rameshwar, vice-president of AMESTA, N Ibochouba, president of AMESTA Zone-I, A Keilyani, publicity secretary of AMESTA Imphal West, S Gunamani Singh and Treasurer of AMESTA Bishnupur district, Th Bhudagopal and AMESTA general secretary Ch Shantakumar were the presidium members of the function.
