7 students get State ranks in Olympiad examinations conducted by SOF

Seven students have brought laurels to the State by securing top State ranks in the Olympiad examinations conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF).
Prizes to rank holders were distributed in a ceremony held in Delhi recently.
It may be mentioned that the British Council and BBC Knowledge are associated with SOF for the Olympiads since its inception.
Patel Lairenjam, a Class VI student of Little Flower School and Saikhom Amarjit Singh, a Class VIII student of Tiny Tots' Unique School - secured State Rank 1 in the International Mathematics Olympiad and National Science Olympiad respectively.
Class XII student of Comet School, Asish Naorem also got State Rank 2 in the International English Olympiad.
Geetapriya Khwairakpam, a Class VII student of Frobel English School and Class XII student Ningthoujam Rakesh Singh of International also secured State Rank III in the English Olympiad.
In the International Mathematics Olympiad, Ahanthem Vivek Singh, Class XI student of Herbert School and Laishram Yangba, Class I student of Antartic English School also secured the same rank.
The award distribution ceremony was graced by Justice Dipak Misra, Judge Supreme Court of India as chief guest and NIT Manipur Chairman Prof YS Rajan as guest of honour.
British Council India Director Education Richard Everett and Suprama Misra were also present at the occasion.
SOF Founder and Executive Director Mahabir Singh said that over 27000 schools from 1360 cities across India and 16 countries participated in the Olympiad examinations held during 2013-14 and millions of students appeared in the Olympiads.
Rs 50,000, a gold medal, a certificate and gifts worth Rs 1000 each were awarded to 47 International Rank One holders, Rs 25000, a silver medal, a certificate and gifts worth Rs 1000 each were given to 47 International Rank Two holders and Rs 10000, a bronze medal, certificate and gifts worth Rs 1000 each were awarded to 47 International Rank Three holders.
The top 10 Principals and top 40 teachers, whose students have given an excellent performance at the International level, were also felicitated with cash awards, mementos and citations.
About 24000 students from 3350 schools have been awarded for achieving top State level ranks.
Close to 4,60,000 students have been awarded 'Medals of Excellence', for achieving top ranks in their respective schools.
SOF's main aim is to identify, motivate and reward talent and performance � at the International level, State level and also School level.
It attempts to develop a spirit of competitiveness among students and to prepare them to face competition beyond their school level.
